Recent reviews describe staff who handle both pets and worried owners patiently (for example, answering “silly questions” without making owners feel judged) and being quick to fit in pressing problems. There’s also a clear split in experiences around transparency: one owner alleges they were persuaded into a non-essential procedure and weren’t clearly told what anaesthetic drugs were used after a fatal reaction, while another review says the practice was upfront about costs and helped them use insurance and a pet health plan. A repeated practical downside mentioned is long waits past appointment times.

⚠️ Please read before trusting your pet to this clinic I am heartbroken to share that my beloved cat Bilbo passed away during what was supposed to be a simple procedure at this clinic. He was given anesthesia, and within moments his heart stopped. The staff said it might have been an allergic or anaphylactic reaction to one of the drugs — something very rare and unpredictable. They tried to resuscitate him for about 20 minutes, but he didn’t survive. What hurts the most is that I was persuaded to agree to this procedure, even though it wasn’t truly necessary. I trusted the clinic, believing my cat would be safe. Now I’ve lost him forever. I was never clearly told which anesthetic drugs were used, or why this decision was made. I believe that pet owners deserve full transparency and honest communication about the risks before any procedure is done. I’m sharing my story to warn other pet owners — please, always ask about the anesthesia drugs, possible allergic reactions, and alternatives before agreeing to any treatment. I have lost trust in this clinic and will never return. Bilbo deserved better. 💔

The vets are really friendly and incredibly caring but it always takes so long to be seen by the vets. This might be the same experience for every vets I'm just surprised that it doesnt matter if it's in the morning or whenever, I'm always seen to later than my appointed time... Just to reiterate that they are all really lovely though!

I’ve been taking my puppy here since I adopted him six months ago and have always had a wonderful experience. You can tell that the team care so much about all the animals they see, and they’re so good that Spudley gets so excited going to the vets that I have to try and calm him down! They treat owners great as well, including answering silly questions when we’re panicking and never making us feel silly for asking them. I’ve already recommended the Chalks Road practice to friends, and will continue to do so!

We adopted our pug when he was a year old and I am a completely obsessed and completely anxious dog mum. His breed means he unfortunately comes with a host of health issues, often ones that spring out of nowhere. They are always so swift to see him if I need to call with a pressing matter and are never anything but kind, patient and supportive (to me as well as the dog)! I always know he is in safe hands and they have helped him mend many times, in particular with an ongoing back issue of late. I moved from St George to Fishponds but still go back to this branch as I feel so comfortable with them, as does our pooch. Thank you everyone, you're all angels! X

We’ve been to the surgery multiple times over the last few months as our puppy has needed treatment for an eye condition and more recently when he was bitten by another dog. On every occasion that staff are warm, friendly and welcoming and take genuine care and interest in our pet. We have always found them to be upfront and transparent about costs and helpful and honest about how we could utilise insurance and pet health plan. Highly recommend

We have been using Animal House Vets for 14 years. The staff are welcoming and helpful in person or over the phone. Our experiences with the vets has been positive. We've had to use the vets practice a bit more often in the past couple of years as our dog Skip, is in his senior years. I would be happy to recommend Animal House Vet's surgery to friends or family.
