Bristol PDSA Pet Hospital is part of PDSA (a veterinary charity) and is positioned to provide free and low-cost veterinary care for pets in need. Owners repeatedly mention treatment being “a fraction of the cost” compared with private practices, including one review describing a cat operation completed successfully with a good recovery. Recent reviews also flag practical and experience issues: one owner says they couldn’t work out how to book an appointment (phone options cutting off and no online booking), and another describes a distressing euthanasia consultation where they felt pressured and reported no tests were done.

I always receive an excellent service from the PDSA in Bristol. My pets are well looked after. The prices they charge are a lot cheaper than a private vet. They always try to do everything they can to help your pets.

Great service to the community

I have just adopted a cat which was registered with this vet but it seems to be totally impossible to book an appointment to have her checked. All the phone options lead to the line being cut off. There is no option for booking an appointment on the website. How does anyone manage to do this?

Our cat got euthanized almost two weeks ago and looking back, our experience here was unacceptable. The vet suggested that we were being selfish if we didn't euthanize our cat and that the situation was hopeless. Seeing that our cat was unwell and trusting the vet, we decided to listen to him and put her to sleep. As soon as we got home we immediately regretted our decision. Without doing any tests, the vet determined that our cat had kidney cancer and would die in pain in the next week or so if we didn't put her sleep. He literally just felt her kidney area and diagnosed her within two seconds. After reading reviews from other people with similar experiences to ours, it seems that the pdsa are pretty happy to bin off your pets due to the fact it's a charity and people aren't required to pay. If you do take your pet here and they suggest euthanization, then please don't listen to them and get a second opinion from another vet. This place is completely unprofessional. They also expected a donation from us after this. I mean seriously, a donation for what? You guys didn't do any tests and pressured me to put my cat to sleep straight away. I seriously don't know why people work with animals when they clearly lack sympathy for them.

I had a very upsetting experience at this vet hospital, specifically with the reception manager, Sarah. From the moment I approached the desk, she was extremely unkind and unprofessional. She repeatedly interrupted me, raised her voice, and showed no patience or respect. What was even worse is that she spoke about my personal details loudly in front of everyone in the waiting room, with no regard for privacy or confidentiality. It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. A reception manager should make clients feel welcome, respected, and cared for especially in a place where people are already stressed about their pets. Instead, Sarah’s behavior made the entire visit upsetting and uncomfortable. I sincerely hope the hospital addresses this, because no one should be treated this way.

Because my circumstances changed I couldn't afford an operation for my cat at the vets I used to take him to. PDSA hospital did the operation for a fraction of the cost and I'm so grateful for the service they provide. My cat has now recovered and is doing so well. The vets there were all very friendly as well, such a great and important service, when my luck and financial situation changes I will be looking to donate to them and I recommend any animal lovers to do the same.
